Crossing the Finish Line by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985)

Hi folks,

I’m sure I had a facial expression pretty similar to the woman above when I finally finished my latest novel this week. It was slow going, the very final stages not helped by the arrival of a bunch of workmen to dig up the road and driveways to replace the gas mains. I am typing this blog post to the dulcet tones of their shouting and drilling and smashing. I wish they were done already!

Anyway, the book. It started life as a novella. Then life, as it does, gets in the way. The original publisher closed down, but fortunately my rights were returned to me, and since I’d kind of been thinking there was more of the story to tell, I used the opportunity to extend the novella into a novel. It took longer than expected, but still, I got there in the end.

And now I feel so much lighter. I know some writers hate the editing stage, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve got the story down, I’ve done the hard part. Now all I have to do is read through, checking for consistency, repetition, extending, cutting and polishing. Then it can go off to my beta readers, who will likely pick up on a few bits and pieces I missed. Then edits, then boom – send my baby out into the world. Then you get the part about worrying whether people will like it or not!

The book in question is a sexy spy thriller called Hiding in Plain Sight, and it’s available for pre-order now, and will release on the 27th July. The pre-order price is a bargain 99c/p, which will go up on release day, so if you’re budget-conscious, grab it now: http://lucyfelthouse.co.uk/published-works/hiding-in-plain-sight/

Happy Reading!
