Writing to Music and Memories with @MeganSlayer #music #inspiration #iamwriting

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and trying to write. Sounds a little odd, right? Trying to write? Sometimes the words are there, but getting them onto paper or the screen isn’t easy. Life gets in the way, despite the characters not stopping to understand that, and I can’t always get everything jotted down.

So I was thinking, driving and listening to the radio… As I’m going along on my way to a sporting event for my tot, a song came over the radio that reminded me of my characters. Not from the current WIP, but a new one. I’ve usually got two WIPs going at one time, but this one was way out of left field. I have the general outline in my head and did manage to get it down on paper so I can get to it later.

But that driving trip got me thinking about how music has been so influential in my life and writing. I need playlists to write. I need to be inspired. When I was a kid, I used to sit right next to my gigantic boom box and listen to the nightly top ten countdown on my local radio station. I’d write down the songs because if I called in and was the tenth caller (or whatever number they requested that night) who could recall the list…then you won a free cassette tape. I used to try and win every night. I had the list mostly memorized. I never did win, but those songs are still with me. I hear them and think of being a kid again. I remember the thrill of listening to the new tunes, being inspired to create art and maybe get lucky enough to win. I never did, but hey, it was still fun.

Maybe I should use that story for one of my books. Grin. Speaking of being inspired, the highly anticipated next book in my Sanctuary Series drops this week. Saving His Roar!!

Ryan ‘Blaze’ Burden knew his life wasn’t perfect. He’s a stripper at Stiff and a shifter, but he can’t tell anyone about his special ability. The popularity of shifters hasn’t come to Stiff or the town of Sugar Ridge, for that matter. Being a shifter is still frowned upon. Ryan knows he doesn’t fit in, but he does have one bright spot in his life—the mystery man who comes to the club and requests Ryan for private dances. The electricity between them is palpable, but if Ryan makes a move, will the hottie reciprocate?

Delaney Sullivan doesn’t come to Stiff for the ambiance. He’s there for one dancer—Blaze. He senses the shifter within the handsome young man. But Delaney works for the enemy—he’s the campaign manager for the mayor of Sugar Ridge. He doesn’t share the mayor’s desire to outlaw shifters because he’s a panther shifter. Can he get Blaze out of the club? To trust him? Or maybe even to love him?

These opposites certainly attract, but can they find the mutual trust to have a future together?

That Wonderful Urge with @MeganSlayer – #Writing while the #Idea Strikes ~ #writing #inspiration

I recently went to a local aviation museum. I wanted to branch out and see some of the sights close to home that weren’t the usual tourist locations. There are lots of places around that have some awesome exhibits and are just begging for visitors.

So, we went to the aviation one. It was a blast. Planes, planes and more planes. There was also a medical tent set up like ones used in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. You could not only look into the planes, but climb in a few, too. There was even a cabin of a blimp! There was a section on Rosie the Riveter and a Hall of Heroes. I’m glad I visited.

But this post isn’t just about the planes or Rosie. It’s about how the visuals inspired my writing. I’ve got new story ideas for a few different series and one I’m co-authoring. It’s fantastic. I love going places with no plan to use the visit as a story inspiration and having one land in my lap.

The planes got me thinking about my Air National Guard guys. They need more stories. I’ve got two men who’ve shown up and are talking.  I won’t go into details, but there will be angst, love and fun. I promise. Oh, and maybe a separation that will require the heart to grow fonder. Hey, you’ve got to do what they military tells you to. Besides, a little angst is worth it.

Then there was the Rosie exhibit. My connection to Rosie the Riveter is more that my grandmother had a victory garden and sold veggies at a road-side stand to help the war effort.

She wasn’t old enough to be a true Rosie, but hey, who is counting?

But Rosie got me thinking about the Faeries book I penned with Madison Sevier. Rosie has a job and does it…kind of like the original Rosies. Of course this Rosie is involved with paranormal creatures, like faeries. Doesn’t matter. She’s dedicated and has a great time with what she’s doing–kind of like our faeries. Rosie is a true hoot and I’m glad I got an idea for the next story in her world. Madison and I can’t wait to bring them to you!

I’m off to get writing — at least the outlines — and until I’m back, here’s a little about Faeries After Dark.

#SecondChances, Revealing Me and What Might Have Been with @MeganSlayer #mmromance #shortstory

Have you ever wondered what might have happened if you’d gotten a second chance with the one who got away? Ever wondered what it would be like to have the love of a lifetime? What if that guy happens to be a male model? Then you might be like the characters in my short story, Revealing Me.

Kenley is very nerdy and computer geeky. He knows he’s not the most handsome man out there, but he’s not awful. When the guy he had a one night stand with comes back…will the sparks fly again?

I love second chance romance stories and this one was a delight. I got to know Kenley and Peter so well and couldn’t stop their tale at only this one. They’ve got a whole series. Check out Revealing Me. It’s short, sweet but hot and yummy. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Chapter One

Kenley Kissinger loved balls, but not this kind of ball. Fantasy gatherings with elaborate masks and groups of people together having fun-not awful, but not great for a guy who preferred to keep to himself.

He adjusted the mask over his eyes. He hated masks. Truth be told, he hated to have his face covered. He preferred honesty, but this damn ball wasn’t about honesty. It was a celebration, and no one gave a rat’s ass about his feelings.

He stepped into the Annex building and sucked in a long breath. His neighbor, Nadine, had rallied the neighborhood and conned everyone into holding a masquerade ball to celebrate the end of the summer. The kids were back in school and the floods that had ravaged the neighborhood over the summer were finally gone. The water levels for the Jeromesville Creek had reached record heights. But then the whole summer had been full of crazy weather and most people in Jeromesville, Ohio weren’t used to so much rain.

He turned his attention back to the dancers out on the street. He didn’t see how a party would make much difference, and boost morale after flooding, but whatever. He played along.

Maybe Peter would be there.

His breath clogged in his throat. He’d had a one-night stand with Peter two months ago, even called his cell phone a couple times afterwards, but Peter was always too busy to get together again.

In the course of one night, he’d fallen into lust with Peter Barnes. He had to be crazy. Peter wasn’t interested, but he kept thinking about the blond guy down the street. Why did Peter seem so sad? Why wasn’t he interested in getting together again? Why couldn’t Peter give him some sort of closure?

God only knew.

He and Peter hadn’t said anything about not wanting to share personal information. They seemed to be rather tight during the evening they’d shared, but then in the morning Peter disappeared. He wasn’t even sure what Peter did for a living.

He turned his attention back to the makeshift dance floor in the street. The DJ played 80’s dance music requiring everyone in the crowd to do the same steps. He’d never been good at those kinds of dances. His coordination didn’t work that way. He usually tripped over the person next to him or ended up five steps late on each move.

Leaning against the brick mailbox structure, he watched the dancers. A man with blond hair and a tailored suit danced along to the music. The black masquerade mask covered his eyes and forehead, but the rest of his face was up for viewing. When he smiled, a dimple deepened on his right cheek. Did he have scruff? Too hard to tell from so far away. He admired the build of the man’s body, strong like a bodybuilder, but wider in the shoulders and narrow around the waist with long legs. He sighed and bit back a grin. He liked men with long legs.

Peter had long legs and a dimple. He shivered. The memory of Peter’s kiss lingered in Kenley’s mind. He wanted to feel that desire again, and wanted to be loved.
