Where does your inspiration come from? by @AuthorLynnBurke #WritersLife

How did you think up a dragon shifter who will enter eternal sleep if he doesn’t claim his human mate?

Where did your brain surgeon with the need to submit to his Domme come from?

And the timid, virginal thirty-something from your latest release…what the hell happened that she decided to visit a sex club?

Inspiration for new stories can be found pretty much anywhere, but three get me going more than any others.

There are a handful of writers I one-click without thought, without even reading the blurb of their newest release. Why? These authors understand deep PoV (Kristin Lamb had an awesome post on this last week) and drag me into their character’s emotions and turmoil effortlessly.

Roni Loren’s Nothing Between Us, was the first M/M/F love story I ever read. Talk about HEAT! It’s also one I revisit because it’s so well written. My Finding Freedom evolved from my own religious upbringing and fantasies of threesomes, but I never would have considered the story had I not been introduced to her characters who wouldn’t be swayed by society’s thoughts on what is right or wrong.

Oftentimes, it’s the secondary or background characters I’m thinking of when a new story pops up. How did they end up where they are? What drives them? What do they long for, and what stands in their way? Good fodder for the brain right there.

People watching!

Another great inspiration time for me is people watching. Sitting in public and allowing my mind free rein with those who wander past.

She obviously wasn’t thinking this morning while pulling on those pants.

Why are his eyes so haunted?

Makeup isn’t quite working to cover that young woman’s bruise.

The elderly couple, both stooped and shuffling, still holding hands.

But it can be a tiny detail that brings a character to life. Take the tall, lithe young blond in the post office a few months ago…he inspired Kaden’s ass in No One Until Her.

I know this is a big one for a lot of my author friends. Harmony and sustained words can easily get the creative juices flowing. Even a single line can create an image so vivid in my mind that an entire story floods over me faster than I can jot a quick outline.

What about you? What gets your imagination going? When does an idea capture you and demand you write as fast as your fingers can click?

What feeds your muse? #MondayRamblings with Doris (@mamaD8)

Happy Monday, folks, Doris here.

Hope you’re all having a great day. I’m on somewhat of a high because I managed to send my first submission of the year off to my publisher Evernight Publishing. Slightly late for me, I have to say, but my writing has been somewhat on a slow go lately.

I blame the car accident I had just before Christmas. It did throw me for a loop for some time, but I’ve finally been discharged from Physio, and my muse is back with a vengeance.

She’s on a right shifter streak at the minute, which led me to today’s blog post. What feeds your muse?

Mine is a very visual creature. Give her a hunky man to drool over and she’s off.

In this case she went a little doolally over my inspiration for Darius Longton, bear shifter.

I had no idea who this hunk was when I started writing Claiming his Human, but I’m reliably informed this is the model Christian Goran, and, well, be still my beating heart.

He just has bear shifter written all over him, really.

Um, where was I?

Oh, yeah, my story.

Here’s the blurb for Claiming his Human (The Projects, #6)

Shifters defend their mates to the death.

Bear shifter Darius Longton never expected to find his mate in his favorite coffee shop, but one sniff of her scent in the air is all it takes for his bear to know the truth.

This delicious, sinfully curvy redhead is his.

Too bad she’s human and far too fragile for his volatile bear.

Holly Trent cannot understand the instant attraction she feels for this man. One look from his heavy-lidded eyes is all it takes to set her knickers aflame with lust. However, she will not be another notch on his bedpost, no matter how much his voice alone makes her want to sink to her knees.

When a customer gets heavy with her, everything changes.

Darius’s defense of her places them both in terrible danger. Thrown headfirst into council shifter politics it falls to Holly to save her mate.

Hopefully the powers that be will like this story as much as I loved writing it. To avoid inbox stalking I’m immersing myself into writing my next story. This one is about a wolf shifter, alpha of his pack who ends up mated too a deer shifter….

Should be fun! That’s him protecting his mate.

‘Til next time, folks.

Do stay naughty!

Inspiration and that pesky muse #MondayRamblings from Doris (@mamaD8)

Happy Monday, folks, Doris here with some Monday Ramblings.

Inspiration is one of those funny things. It can strike at any time, and it can also disappear in a flash, or sneak away into the murky mists, never to be seen again.

I’m not usually stuck for inspiration, it has to be said, but I’m in the middle of writing what I have jokingly called the never ending story. Mainly, because this story has been and continues to be written in short bursts of inspiration where my fingers fly, and others – far more of those moments than I am happy with  – where every word is a struggle. I first started this story back in June…

Yes you read that right, June. By all rights it should have long since been finished, but my muse kept having other ideas. Lord only knows why when Stuart Reardon is my Hero inspiration! He’s Micah, paramedic and Dom, who comes to the rescue of the heroine Sandy in Taken by the Biker Dom.

You’d think my fingers would fly, wouldn’t you?

Then again, my muse also threw these heroes at me

That hunk was the inspiration for Richard in Finally His, my current release, which demanded to be written and interrupted the never-ending story.

Next to push his way in was this rather yummy inspiration in the form of Eric Rutherford….

He is Jamie, the hero in my upcoming release, On her Terms. I’ve just returned final edits for this story, and am eagerly awaiting a release date and my cover.

You see why I call Taken by the Biker Dom the never-ending story, can’t you? It currently stands at just under 50 K and there is still lots of story to tell. It’s proving to be quite an emotional journey for my H/H, so maybe that’s why my muse keeps insisting on throwing other stories at me.

I’ve been in lock down with her because she wants me to tell this hunk’s story now. He’s a bear shifter ….

Needless to say, I’ve had firm words with my muse, because as determined as she is for me to write this story, I’m just as determined to finish Micah’s and Sandie’s story. I think, I’m winning, at last….

Shhh, don’t tell her. She’s a right stroppy so and so when thwarted.

So, there, you have it. I realize you now all think I’ve completely lost the plot, which may well be true…

Hope you enjoyed the ManCandy at least. I best get on with writing that never-ending story.

Do stay naughty, folks.
