Just Write the Book with @MeganSlayer #iamwriting #finishing #novels #interruptions

I’m the kind of writer who has more than one book going at a time. I can’t read one book at at time. I don’t know why. I’ve always been the kid who had to have the tv on or music playing while I did my homework. I need noise and action to work. To some, that seems strange, but to others it doesn’t. I’m a noise kind of girl.

Just as much as I’m horrible with concentrating unless there’s chaos, I can’t seem to work on one book at a time. I said that, remember? I’ve got a story I should be working on right now. It’s not at the deadline yet, but it’s also stalled. The words are there, but they don’t want to come. Darn those words, right? The reason they won’t come is there’s another story playing in my head. I said I have more than one story going at a time. Seems like this shouldn’t be a big deal? This story, though, won’t let go. Despite my best intention to focus, this story won’t go away. I even tried to put that notebook aside and it did no good.

So I worked on it. I jotted down everything the characters are telling me. It’s a jumbled mess, but it’s there. I like having it down. Maybe the jumble and the chaos is what I need. Maybe this story, this diversion, isn’t a diversion per se and it’s what I should be working on next. I never know until the words spill out.

So that’s what I’m going to do. I’m putting the stalled book aside and working on the chatty one. I feel better about the decision already.

Speaking of finished books… here’s a preview of my latest book, Soft Marble:

Sparkling New Year and a New Direction with @MeganSlayer

Normally when I start the year, one of the first things I do is make up a general plan for the year. What am I going to write? What’s talking? What’s the best use of my writing time for the year? Who am I going to write for? Seems like quite a few valid questions, right?

The thing is, this year is different than the last few. One of my cherished publishers has opted to close. They’re going about it a very professional way, but still…they’re closing. That means two of my series are in limbo…what do I do with them? I’m still deciding. Another publisher is allowing the writers to put the books into print. That’s great, but that’s a whole slew of cover art that isn’t ready… Makes my mind boggle.  Yet another publisher switched over to a new company. I’m thrilled. I like the change, but I’m not wild about change in general. I’d rather things stay the same. I know, I know. Life doesn’t work that way.

So that’s where I’m temporarily stuck and sorting out what I want to do. I’ll get there. Promise. I’ve got plenty of books in the pipeline for this year and the characters never take a day off.

So the new direction I mentioned in the title? That’s not kicking myself for not writing when I want and giving myself some wiggle room. If the story isn’t talking for a day, I’m not going to push it. If it’s talking a lot, I’ll have a notebook handy.

What are your plans for 2018? Did you make resolutions? Why? Why not? Let me know. Speaking of New Years…

Here’s a little bit about my latest release, Sparkling New Year!

Sparkling New Year by Megan Slayer

New year, new relationship?
Dating and Aydin Madison haven’t been good friends. He’s shy, bookish and would rather be with his set designs than most people. He knows his way around the theater, but his love life is non-existent. He knows whom he’d like to date–Brandon Kidd, the boy du jour of the art school. He’d love to rub Brandon the right way. It’s too bad Brandon doesn’t seem to know Aydin exists.
When freak circumstances throw these two together, they’ll have to decide if the sizzling connection is the key to their happy new year or just a fluke.

“What do you want for Christmas?” Ford Rogan stood tall and rolled his shoulders. He appraised his sub. “Hmm?”

Hayes Carter kept his head down as he knelt in front of Ford. “I want to be yours, Sir.”

“You do?” Ford grinned. Of the three subs he worked with, he preferred this boy. Hayes knew how to please him as much as he pleased Ford. He swept his gaze over Hayes. Before they played, he liked to set the tone and talk to his sub. Hayes was different. He could watch the sexy man all day and not get tired of him. “Tell me your safe word.”

“Legal brief.” Hayes shivered. “But I don’t want to use it.”

He’d always wondered why Hayes had chosen such an unorthodox safe word, but then again, there weren’t a whole lot of rules for their scenes. “You understand what will happen? If you trust me, I’ll make you fly and blow your mind. I trust you to tell me when you’ve reached your limits.”

“I trust you, Sir. Always.” He clasped his hands behind his back.

Ford ruffled Hayes’s black hair, then trailed his fingers down Hayes’s neck. Christmas hadn’t been far from his mind. He wasn’t sure why. Most of the time he could block out the holidays and other forces beyond the walls of the club. Not today. He focused on Hayes and locking the collar around Hayes’s neck. He affixed the leash to the D-ring. “Ready? Crawl.”

“Thank you, Sir.” Hayes settled on his hands and knees. He crawled on the floor beside Ford. His bare ass flexed as he moved.

Ford resisted the urge to swat him. Instead, he directed Hayes to the St. Andrew’s cross. “You’ve pleased me. On your feet.”

Hayes scrambled off the floor and stood against the cross. “Thank you, Sir.”

“Show me your ass.” Allowed the leash to drop down Hayes’s naked body, he picked up a clear glass butt plug. “I’m filling you.” He liked pushing Hayes’s limits, plus the glass always looked beautiful against Hayes’s skin.

Hayes grasped the open cuffs on the ends of the cross and stuck his ass out. He widened his stance. “I’ve been bad, Sir. I need you to punish me.”

“Have you?” He closed the cuffs around Hayes’s wrists, then dragged the plug down his sub’s back. “How bad?”

“I haven’t been able to get you out of my head.” Hayes writhed. “I’ve thought about us playing more than once a week. I jacked off last night, and I imagined you were there.”

“Boy.” He shouldn’t be pleased, but he couldn’t help it. He’d been drawn to Hayes from the first time he’d seen the man and wanted him. He pumped lube into his hand, then smeared the lube between Hayes’s ass cheeks. Hayes writhed again and flexed. “Do you want this?”

“Please, Sir?” Hayes pulled against the cuffs.

“Eventually.” He pushed the head of the plug against Hayes’s hole. Once the plug moved past the tight ring of muscle and was buried in his sub’s ass, he kissed Hayes’s shoulder. Kissing his subs wasn’t his norm, but then Hayes wasn’t just any sub. He should’ve prepped Hayes more, but that was one of the things Hayes enjoyed — being used. “Don’t let that fall out.” He tapped the handle. “Understand, boy?”
