Wow – I can’t believe this is my last post here for 2017. This year seems to have gone so fast! But it was a vast improvement on 2016, so I’m definitely not complaining.
As is usually the case at this time of year, I’m thinking about my goals and aspirations for next year. The writing market is growing tougher and tougher, publishers are closing, readers can be difficult to find… and yet, I’m not giving up. Far from it. I still love writing, and I’m still doing okay. Far from making a living from it, sadly, but it supplements what I’m earning. Most importantly, though, I’m still getting great feedback. I get messages from readers saying how much they’ve enjoyed my books, I receive positive reviews, and that keeps me going.
At the same time, though, I’ve got to adapt to stay in the game. I have to do dull adulting stuff like pay bills, and buy groceries, put petrol in my car, feed the dog, so earning money is a must. Which is why I’ve started to turn, as I mentioned in an earlier post, to writing to market. There’s no way I’ll suddenly drop everything and start writing sci-fi (if I do, someone should probably send me to a doctor, as there’s a good chance I’ve been given a lobotomy), but my upcoming reverse harem series was written to try to entice the seemingly rabid readership of reverse harem romance fans. But I wouldn’t have done it if the genre didn’t appeal to me in the first place. It did, though, and Mia’s Men is coming next month – what a start to the year! I’m so excited about it!
So, for early 2018 at least, that’s where my focus will be. I have a couple of projects I’ve committed to, but otherwise, I’ll be working on Mia’s Wedding, book two in The Heiress’s Harem series, and then Mia’s Choice, which is book three. After that – who knows? I do have potential other reverse harem romance ideas bubbling away in the back of my head, so I guess we’ll have to see what happens! If people enjoy Mia and her bunch of gorgeous guys, then I’ll let my Muse decide. I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve spent with Mia and the boys so far.
I’ll also be going through old contracts and possibly getting rights to other books back, so there may well be more re-releases dotted in amongst the new releases. Just a little housekeeping! 😉
Other that that – keeping my head above water, earning enough cash to go on a couple of holidays… anything beyond that is a bonus! So if you’ve bought one of my books in 2017, I say a hearty thank you, hope you enjoyed it, and that you’ll check out others.
Here’s to an amazing new year for all of us!
