Revisiting old stories #WritersEvolution from Doris @mamaD8

Hello, awesome peeps. Time for some more Tuesday ramblings  from lil old me.

Stop groaning in that corner! 😉

As the title says, I’m talking about revisiting old stories today. As a writer we constantly evolve, or at least we should be. If you’re not then there’s something wrong in my humble opinion. I strive to improve with every story that I write.

So, when I get a chance to revisit old stories, I always look forward to it. I’ve had reason to do this a few times over the last year or so, as I got my rights back to stories, and two of my publishers closed up shop.

All of those previously published stories have now found new homes, but I’m going to talk about my latest re-write, Claimed by her Bears, for which I received an acceptance at the weekend.

Cue happy squeals from yours truly.

This story was originally called Goldie and her Bears, and was my first menage. A hot little 15 K tale, and my very naughty version of  Goldie and her Bears. It did quite well, but as my writing evolved, there were things that niggled. This is a BDSM story, and as I got more into the lifestyle myself, things rankled with me. I was dithering about requesting my rights back, so that I coud re-write this story and let it reach its full potential, but as I was busy with other things, I never did. When that publisher announced they were closing their doors, the decision was taken out of my hands. I still sat on it for a while, but eventually opened that word doc and had a read.

Just like the first time I wrote those bears, they pulled me under their spell, and wouldn’t let me go, until I  had re-written their story. That simple 15 K short morphed into a 46 K story!

Like I said, the original version had been my first menage, and I have learned an awful lot about writing in that genre and writing sex in particular.

Very little of the original story remains in fact, and I’m incredibly proud and excited about this new version, and I can’t wait to see what readers will make of it. Claimed by her Bears now contains everyone’s POV (the original was just in hers)  and I’ve added a lot of depth and heat. Yes, you  will need a fan, for sure.

My bear shifters always tend to be incredibly raunchy. Don’t ask me why, they just are. Maybe because they are my favourite kind of shifters, or maybe because hubby, especially in Sir mode refers to himself as a bear…

I’ll leave your imagination to fill  in why.

Re-writing this story was a real eye opener in how far I have come in my writing journey, and there is great joy to be found in working with familiar characters, and helping them ro reach their full potential.

Ultimately, of course, the readers will decide whether I’ve done a good job, and that’s the way it should be.

Here’s the unedited blurb:

Take one very human girl. Add three bear shifters and one BDSM club. Shake well…

When Goldie Lockwood tumbles into the arms of the new CEO, she falls head over heels in lust with the enigmatic Dom. Interested in the lifestyle she might be, but Jason Stanhope seems way out of her league.

Jason’s bear wants nothing more than to bend Goldie over his desk and claim her right there, but that wouldn’t be appropriate.  This bear shifter comes as a package deal—three for the prize of one. As the oldest of triplets, his mate will also have to submit to his brother and sister.

While Goldie responds beautifully to his training, will a weekend at the club be one step too far, or can she be the sweet sub the siblings need?

Revealing their bears might very well make Goldilocks live up to her name.

Have a great day, folks, and stay naughty!
