Hi everyone, and Happy New Year! Wow, Christmas and New Year already seem so far away – it’s been non-stop here.
So, for this post I’m going to be a little different and let you know my anti-resolutions, otherwise known as things that are going to stay exactly the same in 2014.
- I’m going to keep writing what I want to write, because it’s impossible to predict trends, and even if you write quick enough and get something published that’s on trend, it’s still no guarantee of sales
- I’m going to keep the same hours and scheduling I did in 2013. It worked for me – I managed to keep on top of everything; my marketing business, my writing, promoting my books and my editing roles. I wrote a damn good amount of words too, which I’m proud of. I could write more if I gave some of the other things up, of course, but until I’m earning more cash from my writing, that’s not an option
- I’m going to keep my focus on longer works. I’ll still write occasional short stories for particular anthologies, but otherwise I’ll continue to work on novellas and novels. Readers seem to like them better and I’m likely to make more money – plus I enjoy having the luxury of really exploring characters’ backgrounds and putting them through the wringer!
And now, onto my debut novel. My M/F/M BDSM erotic romance novel, Stately Pleasures, actually released in eBook format a few weeks ago, but it’s now also available in print format. I had loads of fun writing this kinky book, and it’s had really good feedback so far. Here’s the blurb:
Alice Brown has just landed her dream job. Property manager at Davenport Manor, a British stately home. It’s only a nine-month contract to cover maternity leave, but it’s the boost up the career ladder she so desperately needs.
Unfortunately, things don’t get off to the best start, when Alice finds her boss, Jeremy Davenport, in a compromising position. Far from being embarrassed by what’s happened, Jeremy turns things around on Alice and makes her out to be the one in the wrong. So when he and his best friend and head of security, Ethan Hayes, then throw an ultimatum at her, she’s so stunned and confused that she goes along with their indecent proposal.
When the dust settles and Alice has time to think about things, though, she realises that perhaps it isn’t such a bad thing. There are worse things she could be doing to advance her career, after all.
